We learn about how the tourism industry works.
Tourism is a huge industry and is a booming sector in all country's economies. It doesn't matter what country you live in, there are always groups of people who are interested in visiting your homeland. It is important to keep up with current affairs and happenings all over the world that could affect tourist movements. Tourism is a course that requires independent work and much independent research using good language skills and numeracy.
The course consists of four Learning Outcomes, all aimed at promoting the tourism industry in
Southern Africa. The Learning Outcomes are:
● Tourism as an interrelated system, including research on sectors in the industry, careers, skills and attitudes and the effect of tourism on the country. It entails research on government strategies and economic and community development.
● Responsible and sustainable tourism. Environmental, social and economic factors are researched and applied to tourism matters.
● Tourism geography, attractions and travel trends. Research on attractions, statistics, services like transport, the SADC countries, foreign exchange and time zones and creating itineraries.
● Customer care and communication. Important in this section is good use of the English language both written and spoken, teamwork and the ability to understand the needs and preferences of clients.
