Term 2 Exams are used for selection criteria - Good Luck!
Dramatic Arts is divided into Theory and Practical, each having equal value. In Theory, we follow the evolution of theatre from Greek through to contemporary theatre. Every year we study three play texts and the associated theatre history. We explore theatre design, costume and character as well as staging techniques.
Learners can choose between the performance or the technical/film options for their Grade 12 practical work and examination. We are one of the very few schools which offer both practical stream options.
Attendance of live theatre is mandatory for the study of Dramatic Arts and we attend theatre productions up to three times a year. Live performance is absolutely essential for our enriched development as performing artists.
FET Drama learners are given opportunities to enter many of the prestigious Drama competitions in The Western Cape, such as The Proscenium Drama Competition and FILMIT. This year we are proud to say that we have learners who have made it through to the finals for both of these competitions. We partake in theatre workshops run by professional theatre makers such as Nicholas Ellenbogen (Horn of Sorrow) and Tiisetso Mashifane wa Noni (Sainthood). We make our own theatre productions to which we invite audiences and adjudicators (The Grade 11 Theatre Evening). We also take part in The Shakespeare Schools Festival, performing our productions in professional theatres such as The Baxter Theatre and The Homecoming Centre.
Most importantly, we have a lot of FUN!
